For this tour we head east from Reykjavik. After a 90-minute drive we reach Thjorsardalur Valley, located in the vicinity of the famous Hekla volcano. The valley was totally devastated by the Hekla eruption in 1104, leaving the whole valley uninhabitable for decades. Many farmsteads were covered in volcanic ash, among them the large medieval farm Stöng, which has been excavated and a replica built nearby.
 
On this tour we visit the excavation site and the fine replica farm and we view magnificent waterfalls. We will also visit two Game of Thrones locations. If you are interested, we can also visit an energy exhibition in a nearby hydro-electric power station.
