n this tour we start at Thingvellir National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thingvellir plays a special role in the mind of the Icelandic people as this is the birthplace of Iceland as a nation. Through the this is where the nation gathered on special occasions, like for example when we proudly declared our independence in on 17 June 1944.

We take our time at Thingvellir, walking around, taking photos and absorbing the atmosphere. But eventually we have to be on our way and soon we will be at the Geysir hot-spring area to see the erupting geyser, Strokkur.

From there we drive the short distance to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall.

Both the sites are extremely popular and can become rather crowded during high season.

After having enjoyed Gullfoss waterfall we have several options. First, we can just head back to Reykjavik, stopping at Skálholt cathedral and Kerid volcanic crater. Second, we can head up to the highlands and visit Kerlingafjöll geothermal area. Last, but not least, we could head over to Thjorsardalur Valley as this tour can easily be combined with our Thjorsardalur Valley tour.
