Borgarfjordur Valley
Borgarfjordur Valley
The Borgarfjördur region is rich in diversity and offers the perfect combination between historical elements and beautiful locations, including the picturesque Hraunfossar waterfalls.
We head north from Reykjavik and within an hour we are at Borgarnes town where we stop for a brief introduction to the settlement of the region and hear about one of the most colourful characters from the Sagas, Egill Skallagrimsson. For those interested, we can stop at the Settlement Exhibition.
Leaving Borgarnes town we head inland where our stops include Grárbrók volcanic craters, Glanni waterfall, Deildatunguhver hot springs, Reykholt historical site and Hraunfossar waterfalls. We then head up to the highlands, travelling the Kaldidalur trail, along the Langjökull glacier and coming down to Thingvellir National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Finally, we head back to Reykjavik.
